Arizona Citizens for the Arts and the CO+HOOTS Foundation are two of the nonprofits partners presenting the 2014 National Pro bono Week. Our goals for the week are a) increase visibility of existing pro bono service activity, b) increase understanding of pro bono needs in the community, and c) increase pro bono service being provided in the high need areas for nonprofits.

Each morning there will be a pro bono orientation taught by one of the three pro bono champions in Phoenix. Kristin Romaine, from CO+HOOTS Foundation, Robin Hanson, from Arizona Citizens for the Arts, and Lauren Keeler, from Apollo Group will be using the pro bono training material provided by A Billion + Change.

For a nonprofit to apply for a skills based volunteer, they must take this one hour training and complete the forms provided via the Readiness Road Map, developed by Points of Light.

Our format is a presentation followed by a lab. We felt the opportunity to learn, then, practice would be the most beneficial for the attendees. The topics were pulled from the top requests for pro bono Service from Taproot Foundation.

We are hosting a couple of really innovative programs during the week. We have partnered with a group of graphic designers, Design 4 Good, which will be designing info graphics for ten nonprofits. Five are existing nonprofit partners and five will be new partners and all of the work will be done pro bono. The infographics will be made into poster size and displayed the following week. We are hoping to secure a site during the 2015 Super Bowl to also graphically display pro bono work in Phoenix.

Michael Manos, author of “How to Give Half of Your Work Away for Free” will be our featured speaker. Mr. Manos is a model for the co-worker community and entrepreneurs we hope to attract as potential pro bono volunteers.

Our board development session will include several components: first, a board source trainer will introduce the Board Matrix evaluation; a presentation on board governance; and finally a “speed” networking mixer where potential board members can meet with nonprofits. Our other sessions will focus on technology, board development, finance and legal issues, and recruiting pro bono volunteers.

There is no cost to attend. More information can be found at www.probonophx.com and our Twitter is @ProBonoChampion.
